Nathan met Christopher (now loving called Topher), and they immediately hit it off, talking about The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy until 3 am. After seeing the Avengers together on their first date, they became inseparable!
You all know I looooove a good proposal story. Well, these two sweet humans have THREE and they’re ALL worth sharing!
As told by Nathan:
“I proposed to Topher when he was talking about wedding decorations saying “I don’t wanna hear any more about your wedding til I know I’m in it” and gave him a mood ring. Then I followed up with “You don’t seem very happy about it.” So yeah, story #1 was the first attempt, and meant well even if the execution gets half a star.
Attempt #2 was after a work event where we went to 3 Dots and a Dash for cocktails, and Topher ordered 2 Paupu Fruit drinks. In Kingdom Hearts, it was said if two people shared a paupu fruit, their destinies became entwined. He told me to take a sip of one and then we’d switch, having shared the drinks. I knew already I wanted to marry him, and that was the sign I needed that it was time. So, at home, I proposed again, much more sweetly this time and with conviction and purpose. But it was still a drunk proposal so he said no. Fair. In the morning I’d sobered up and asked him again, saying I really did mean it and the alcohol was irrelevant. He said yes that time, but I could tell it wasn’t the proposal he wanted. So I made plans.
Attempt #3, even though he’d said yes, was worth it. We were both way into Doctor Who, so I ordered pocket watches inspired by David Tennant’s incarnation of the Doctor as our engagement watches. I waited until he was napping one summer afternoon, the sun streaming in and the world quieter than normal for the city. I got dressed to the nines and put the watches in boxes behind my back. When he woke up (finally, I waited for 45 minutes), I approached his bedside as he asked groggily, “Why are you so dressed up?” Then, I told him how much I loved him, then said, “I know you already said you would be my husband, but will you also be my Doctor?” as I presented the watches. He MELTED and said “oooh, okayy” with a big smile and chose which watch would be his. I, Nathan, had finally gotten it right…it just took a few tries, that’s all!
Special thanks to my incredible associates and friends on this one! Jamie & Mark (Jamie Tobin Photography) – find them, follow them, stalk them – they’re amazing, ya’ll!
